A Pure Surf Experience – PurelineSurf Coaching Part 1

When you think of learning how to surf, you think of a surf school.  After your learn the basics and are in the line up by yourself at your home break you still have a lot to learn.  Take it from me.

I was introduced to Alex from Pureline Surf Coaching.  I had never heard of surf coach.  I knew about tennis/golf coaches and personal trainers, but not a surf coach.  Now I’m intrigued.  The progression program that Alex has developed is for the intermediate and advanced surfer that is beyond the group surf school experience.  Your surfing will be taken to the next level with his one on one coaching; perform customized drills, video analysis and surf theory.  Alex, originally from the UK, has 11 years experience as a surf coach, is a lifeguard, BSA and ASI certified and surfed and taught all over the world in spots like Morocco, Nicaragua, Hawaii, The States and Europe.

Pureline Surf Coaching is based in Nosara, Costa Rica.  Located in the Guanacaste Peninsula on the Pacific Coast.  The program he offers IS very customizable.  You can book one 2 hour session, full day or sign up for the 5, 7 or 14 day intensive surf courses.  You will be picked up by Alex at your hotel and head down to the best break for you that day depending on the swell and your ability.  You can use your own board or Alex will set you up one of his boards anywhere from a 6’0 fish to a 9’2 longboard.

Leave the rest up to your coach.  He will work on perfecting you bottom turns, cutback or help you get barreled.

He also can be your surf guide to take you to the many different beach breaks and reef breaks Nosara and Costa Rica have of offer.

I’m heading down to Nosara this winter and will be spending some time in the water with Alex and get some intense surf coaching sessions in.

Look for my Part 2 of this article to hear from me on my true surf coaching experience with Alex and Pureline Surf.
